Youth Agriculture Project

Youth Agriculture Project is one of The Tutorial Center’s most popular and exciting programs. It brings together the best of all worlds: growing fresh healthy produce, essential job skills training for local youth, environmental sustainability & community involvement, plus support for local charitable health and human services organizations.

Congratulations to the terrific youth participants and to the hard-working crew and staff in both Bennington and Manchester who make this project so special.

Highlights from this season include:

More than 2-1/2 acres of organic produce grown and harvested: beans, beets, broccoli, garlic, onions, tomatoes, kale, cauliflower, cabbage, peppers, potatoes, squash, basil, oregano, peas, lettuce….and more.

Donation of over 1,000 lbs. of this healthy, nutritious food to our area Meals on Wheels program for their meals for the needy.

Establishment of a new partnership with the Southwest Vermont Medical Center to provide fresh produce from our gardens to the hospital community cafeteria.

Restoration of the landscaping at the Shaftsbury Historical Society.

Restoration of the historic Hiland Hall gardens at the Park-McCullough House in North Bennington.

Expansion of the Manchester Community Garden to include organic garden plots for 13 community members.

Creation of garden-based after-school programs for children of Manchester Elementary and Middle School.

Installation of a drilled well at the Manchester Community Garden.
