McClure Foundation Strengthens Bridge to College

Math word problems are dissected and conquered!

The J. Warren and Lois McClure Foundation has awarded $30,000 to The Tutorial Center to support the operation and growth of our Bridge to College and Careers program.  “This important support will allow us to provide Bridge to College and Careers tuition-free for all participants,” says Jack Glade, The Tutorial Center’s Executive Director.

In today’s world, getting a better paying and rewarding job typically requires some post-secondary education through either college study or through a career training program. Bridge to College and Careers helps underskilled adults who want to attend post-secondary education to build the academic skills, study skills, and confidence needed to enter and succeed in college or career training programs. The program, offered in partnership with Community College of Vermont – Bennington, uses small-group instruction and extensive counseling support to prepare adults for post-secondary education and to support them in their first post-secondary steps.

What we hear...

“[The student] has made significant gains in reading. Her MAP reading score in September was 156 and on the first percentile. We have just finished our spring testing and she is now on the 45th percentile with a score of 188. She is now performing at grade level. All around, she is much happier and confident. Her parents and I can see a big difference in attitude.”
